The Principal and College Administrator of Sacred Heart College, Agenebode (SHCA), Rev. Fr. Dr. Godstime Irabor, together with the entire SHCA community, join workers across the globe in celebrating the 2026 International Workers’ Day.
This occasion provides an opportunity for the world to pause and recognize the sacrifices, resilience, and achievements of the working class. In Nigeria, in particular, the day also highlights the vital role played by trade unions and other organizations in advocating for fairness, dignity in labour, and the elimination of unjust workplace practices.
The theme for 2026, “Promoting National Development Through Worker Dedication” underscores the importance of commitment, integrity, and excellence in driving sustainable growth and national progress.
At SHCA, we dedicate this day to workers and labour organizations worldwide whose contributions continue to sustain both public and private institutions, while advancing social justice and promoting safe and healthy working environments.
We also acknowledge the evolving challenges faced by today’s workforce, especially those arising from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and ongoing industrialization. These changes call for adaptability, continuous learning, and the strengthening of skills to remain relevant in an ever-changing global landscape.
As an institution, we see this as a call to action, to equip and empower our workforce through reskilling and upskilling, ensuring readiness for emerging opportunities in a rapidly transforming world.
Happy Workers’ Day!
